About the artwork / The inspiration

The atrium of the House of the Silver Wedding in Pompeii, built in the 2nd century BCE and later renovated, features four towering Corinthian columns that support the roof, framing an open compluvium that filled the luxurious space with light. The domus was designed for a wealthy aristocrat and named to honor the 1893 silver wedding anniversary of Italian King Umberto I and Queen Margherita of Savoy.

Artistic Techniques & Materials

In the mysterious atmosphere of this triptych, the dancing couple in transparent gray is on the left panel, decorated with the vivid fresco of the Villa dei Misteri, considered the masterpiece of Pompeii. The two bats give accent to the perspective and contrast with the static scene of this unique location.
