During the Hellenistic period, it became the capital of the Kingdom of Pergamon in the Greek world. The wings of the Nike statue, the Greek goddess of victory, are aligned with the perspective of the ruin. The domus was designed for a wealthy aristocrat and named to honor the 1893 silver wedding anniversary of Italian King Umberto I and Queen Margherita of Savoy. Artistic Techniques & Materials In the mysterious atmosphere of this triptych, the dancing couple in transparent gray is on the left panel, decorated with the vivid fresco of the Villa dei Misteri, considered the masterpiece of Pompeii. Daybreak at Poseidon Format / Size 100 x 60 cm Technique oil, with sandstructure on canvas Year 2015 Category History Style Sand art / Textural art Status Original / Available Price 2.500 € About the artwork / The inspiration The breathtaking ruins of the Temple of Poseidon ( God of the Sea) are perched on a cliff at Cape Sounion, 70 km southeast of central Athens. Built in the mid-5th century BC, the striking Doric monument overlooks the Aegean Sea. Today, 15 of its original 34 marble columns remain standing. Artistic Techniques & Materials The light on the columns and the perspective of the ruin in front of the daybreak over the Aegean Sea are painted in oil, using Ocre and Ultramarine. The range from light to dark is accentuated in the sand structure, which made it possible to create a rocky landscape. The static monument, in contrast to the birds, is the essence of the expression.
